As part of its ongoing CSR initiatives aimed at improving the community and protecting the environment, Economic Zones World along with its partners, planted 300 tree saplings, giving them a permanent home in the Free Zone.

Staff of Economic Zones World, Jafza’s parent company and Imdaad planted saplings near the staff lodgings in the South Zone. Eight different species were planted as part of this campaign – Cordia Sebestana, Caesalpinia gilliesii/pulcherrima, Dodonea viscose, Jatropha integerrima, Justicia ovata, Tecoma stans, Cassia bicapsularis (nigrescens) Conocarpus erectus.

Similar plantation drives are planned for the rest of the year. The campaign is part of the company’s economic, social & environmental commitments and its enhanced CSR strategy which is a significant part of its overall business strategy.

Commenting on the initiative Talal Al Hashimi, Managing Director, EZW-UAE Region said: “Improving the communities in which we operate in and reducing the carbon footprint are at the heart of Economic Zones World’s green initiatives. The first day of spring is symbolic and a perfect day to reiterate our commitment to green projects and conservation of biodiversity. Trees sustain biodiversity and are critical in addressing climate change issues. As a global company, we are continually energising our efforts to lessen our impact on the environment, enhance the workplace, conduct responsible business practices and provide sustainable solutions to our clients.”

“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, last year launched a new initiative to plant one million trees in Dubai. The EZW plantation drive is our endeavour to contribute to the national initiative,” he added.

The free zone operator’s recent green initiatives include ‘think green’ campaigns, aluminium can collection drives and various other activities for environmental events such as World Environment Day, Earth Hour, Earth Day and Clean Up UAE among others. The free zone has recently installed timed switches for lights in some of its buildings and uses environmentally-safe fluid waste stream for irrigation purposes.

Economic Zones World has over the years increased its environmental and socially responsible logistics developments globally providing not just environmentally friendly facilities but also operating cost savings to its customers. Its overall operations incorporate CSR elements with a key focus on community projects.
